Life After NaNo

Even though it's only the 25th of November, I completed and verified my 50k word count for NaNo back on November 19th. YAY!!!

While I am completely excited to have reached that goal, I'm now left with the feeling, "What do I do now?"

Well, the answer is..... keep writing of course!!!!

I am using the end of NaNo to complete a short-story that I've been asked to submit for an upcoming anthology. How exciting!! This will be a short-story companion for my upcoming Ovialell series, separate from the world of Rose and Christian.

The end of a race...
The beginning of history...
The birth of a warrior.

Rezmona, the demon Queen of Abrinthill, has spent her life maintaining the breeding program in order to secure a future for her race. But now she faces something she's never encountered before.

Kylie, a prisoner who's been gathered for the breeding program, is different than any other before her. Not only is she able to withstand the damaging preparations all prisoners must endure...she's actually able to fight back. The demons quickly learn she's not only a threat to the breeding program, but to their very lives as well.

Kylie is the Prophecy's Child.

NaNo Progress and Sneak Peek

It's the end of week 2 for all us crazy NaNo participants, and therefore, time for me to share a progress report.

I am happy to announce that I've been able to hit or exceed my 2k-a-day goal pretty consistently. As I'm writing this, my current word count is 25,181. My stats indicate that if I stay on pace, I should finish by the 18th! Woo-frickin'-hoo! Now, I just hope that life can cut me a break, grant me a little silence, and let me finish what I've started.

Below you'll find a sneak peek to what I've been working on. Please keep in mind that it has not been edited and to be really honest, I have no idea which book of The Rose Trilogy it will be going into, but I hope you enjoy it!

NaNo Project 2011:

I couldn't stand to watch my Dad sit there with that bitch for a second longer. Now that it was obvious there would be no shopping and no movie in my near future, I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Jillian, "Hey can you please come pick me up at the northwest corner of the business district? I have to get the fuck out of here NOW!"

Jillian had started to question me about what was wrong, but I just didn't have the patience to explain it to her over the phone. After grasping my level of frustration she agreed to come pick me up right away.

"I can't believe your Dad is actually seeing someone and didn't even tell you about it." Her shock was genuine, but I was too mad to discuss it.

"Can we just not talk about it?" I asked. "I would love it if we could just go for a drive. I'll pay for the gas. I just need some time to get rid of this angry feeling before I can process any of this."

"You got it. Where do you wanna go?" Jill asked.

"I don't care. Lets just head east I guess." I really didn't have a specific destination in mind, but it was beautiful this time of year, and the idea of taking in a little of the countryside sounded just about perfect right now.

Jillian hummed along to the radio as we drove, and I just stared out the window, watching the trees go by. I kept thinking about all those overnight trips that Dad had made to Masen. It was pretty damn obvious that he spent them with her, but I couldn't help but wonder how long it had been going on. It still pissed me off to think that he had just jumped into a relationship right after Mom had died, and I still didn't understand the statement he had made about me not knowing everything. What the hell was that suppose to mean anyway?

I was lost in my thoughts as I tried to process everything that had happened since Meredith's visit. The way she had scooted closer to Dad on the couch, seeing him in that ridiculous "hip" outfit that was obviously meant to impress her, and then watching her comfort him at the café. But what had really struck me as odd, was the strange, almost angry look that Meredith had given me as I ran by her table today.

I could understand that I probably looked a bit distressed, but then wouldn't you think that she would have had a surprised, or concerned look on her face instead of an angry one? What the fuck did she have to be angry at me about? She was the one who was secretly sleeping with my Dad, so if anyone had the right to be angry, it was me! This line of thinking wasn't helping me calm down, instead, I was starting to get even more pissed off, but then a bump in the road jostled my attention back to the present.

"Hey, where are we?" I asked Jillian. I didn't recognize the road we were now travelling down.

"I turned off the highway a little ways back. It's getting close to being dark and this is the town Justin is from. I thought that since we were close, I'd drive through and check it out."

Jillian's answer surprised me. I had forgotten all about her new vampire boyfriend. Of course he had made some sort of excuse to be unavailable until after dark.

First Day of NaNoWriMo

So the first day of NaNoWriMo is coming to a close for me, and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with my word count. I had designated my goal as 2k, which I surpassed, and have finished the day with 3238 words. I have also decided to set my "writing time" from 9am - 4pm. This range really works for me as 9am is when I get my last kid off to school and 4pm is when I have to pick them up from the bus.

Now, I know that this leaves plenty of writing hours open during the evening that I could be filling with my wonderful (ahem) story ideas and really rocking that NaNo word counter, but let me just tell you a little about what goes on in my house after my 3 children, my husband, and my father arrive home from their days.

1.) My five year old = Him: "Can I play my game? Will you start my game for me? Hey Mom, I need you to come put my cheats in. Can you get me a snack? Hey Mom, come look at this, I got a new car on my game." Me: *Pulls out hair* etc...etc...etc...

2.) My 12 year old = Me: "Clean up your room." Him: "I did." Me: (Looks inside) "Are you fucking crazy?" Him: "What?" Me: "If you think this is clean, then we have a problem." Him: "I'll do it later." Me: "Have you done your chores?" Him: "God... no. I just got home." Me: "Then maybe you should do your chores before ride your skateboard." Him: "Whatever... I'll get to it a minute." Me: *Pulls out hair* etc.... etc....etc...

3.) My 16 year old = Me: "How was your day?" Her: "Shit." Me: "Really, why?" Her: "Why do you think... it's school." Me: "Ok? But did something happen to ruin your day?" Her: "Not really, but you're doing a pretty good job of it." Me: "Watch your mouth. Nothing you experienced today is my fault." Her: "You're my Mom... everything is your fault." Me: *Pulls out hair* etc... etc... etc...

4.) My husband = Me: "Hi honey, how was your day?" Him: "Shit." Me: *Pulls out hair and runs away* etc...etc...etc...

5.) My father = Me: "Hey Dad, how are you feeling?" Him: "Like shit." Me: (Collapses into a fit of laughter) Him: "What's so funny?" Me: "Sorry Dad. It's not you, it's me." Him: "You got that right. What's for dinner?" Me: *Pulls out hair* etc...etc...etc...

So... NOW YOU UNDERSTAND!!!???!!!

Happy Writing!
