Otherwise known as NaNo! Thirty days and nights of literary abandon.
The goal is to reach 50k words in 30 days, emerging with a new novel, freshly formed from the recess of your imagination and/or months of planning.
I, however, will be cheating! Like many others, I have decided to use NaNo to actually complete the current manuscript that I'm working on. This is exactly the kick-in-the-ass I need to get back on target. Because let's be honest, between the school schedules for 3 kids, my husbands "projects" that I have to help him with, taking my father to physical therapy, making dinner every night, doing laundry, cleaning the house and taking care of our animals.... I'm not exactly ON TARGET! LOL
I'm excited and will be reaching out to many of my friends to become my "Writing Buddies", and then, come November 1st - it's time to let my fingers fly. (I type 92wpm, so that should definitely help.)
The one tip, or piece of advice that I plan to really use is - DON'T EDIT! I have a tendency to be a bit of a perfectionist, and editing as I type really slows me down. So, applying this tip is definitely going to test my control issues, but hopefully I can stick to it and just let my story spill out onto the page, without my incessant need to "get-it-right-the-first-time."
Good luck to all my NaNo buddies - I can't wait to see all the new stories that come out of this!
